Just out of curiosity, why do you regularly post links to auctions and sales on the net?

Marc, I don't post them regularly, only occasionally, and only when I think they may be of particular interest to AR readers. Others seem to think so, because I've had members thank me for tips. None of the items I've linked are mine and I have no vested interest in them. Just trying to be helpful.

Personally, I like seeing the links. fla3006 and some other members have great taste and an eye for quality and I always want to take a look at what they find interesting.

I'm sorry if I came across as acussing you of peddling your own wares. I really was just asking out of curiosity. Seems that several times a week an auction or sale gets posted. I was just curious-meant nothing bad by it.

$455 is a lot of money or a wet blank.

But I'm also of the opinion that a wet dog turd would go for top dollar on ebay...........unless I had one up for sale and then it would never get bid up high enought to make reserve.

Is that outrageous for wet wood or just more than you would be willing to give for it? Besides waiting 3+ years for it to dry, what other draw back is there to it? How much do you think it would be worth dry and ready to cut?

The reason I ask because I bought one not long ago that was "green". Blank I bought <-LINK I thought it was a pretty good deal, once it arrived I was blown away! The stock is full of birdseye not seen in the picture. You'd have to refinance your house if you bought it from Dressels.

The stock arrived waxed on all sides. How does it dry like that anyway?

Comments please, if this was a bad idea I can always stick it back on ebay.

It looks damn nice to me!

You have to remove the sealer from the sides or it will never dry. However, you do NOT want to remove the sealer from the end grain.

Sometimes wood will warp and or crack while drying. In a worst case scenario, the blank could be unuseable. IMO, two piece blanks are less risky than rifle blanks to buy "wet". I have an english rifle blank that I bought green, and it has warped about 1/2" in the horizontal plane and twisted slightly. I may have to make a two-piece out of it.

I've bought some wet blanks off ebay with mixed results. I've never had any crack while air drying but some seem to photograph better than they look in person. In other words, there often are deficiencies or imperfections that aren't visable in the photos. In the future I probably won't buy any more blanks I can't see up close and personal, although overall I've been reasonably satisfied with blanks I got off ebay.

I have purchased exactly one blank off eBay. It is an English rifle blank that I got for $115. It was a real "sleeper" that got much better after it was machined. Except for an unfortunate chunk of sapwood right at the toe, it's as good as any $350 Dressel's blank. I sold it to my son-in-law and I'm restocking his M70 with it. It's going to be a really nice stock.
