Heres a few pics of my soon to be 9.3.

I picked up the action (BRNO) from a guy off one of the auction sites. Somebody here mentioned one of his auctions, the one that was seriously pitted. Mine cleaned up pretty good, a few spots are iffy, not sure if I'm gonna use this action or if I'm gonna use a new chaz daily reciever that should be here any day now.

Went with a bold trigger this time, never used one before so I figured what the hell. safety is a 2 position. Barrel is 20", not sure of manufacture (a story I dont quite understand but....) but it definitly looks new and for what I'm gonna use this for, it will work for me.

Right now the bottom metal on it is a reworked military piece that the trigger guard was trimmed up and the 2 small lock screw holes were filled in. Looks nice but I have a hinged piece (release in the bow) on the way. might use that one. Now I'm just waiting for extractor and collar and fajen synthetic stock and then its off to the smith for the final work.

Gonna go with a good set of irons, maybe a teflon finish and she should be ready.

A lesson in irony

The Food Stamp Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is proud to be distributing this year the greatest amount of free Meals and Food Stamps ever, to 46 million people.

Meanwhile, the National Park Service, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, asks us... "Please Do Not Feed the Animals." Their stated reason for the policy is because "The animals will grow dependent on handouts and will not learn to take care of themselves."

Thus ends today's lesson in irony.

Hey Joel you've got nearly the same project going as me!
I picked up the same barrel as you did and the same story to go with it but what the hell it was a deal, I'm starting with a GEW98 action, same bottom metal, bought a new bolt that looks just like yours, 3 position Gentry safety, Butler Creek synthetic and a Timney trigger. I am about to order the irons and I think I'll go with a Williams short front and a NECG rear Peep sight that will attach to the Weaver grand slam bases, Warne QR rings and a 2.5-8 Leupold and I should have a shooter.
I don't have my barrel on yet did you have any problems headspacing that one or did it fit right up for you?

HEy Snell,

Actually the barrel is just screwed on. I dont have gauges for the 9.3.

I think it would make a nice little hiking/bear gun for my wife. I'm sure I'll use it more than her though.

I'm gonna have wildwestguns fit there rear peep on it. Not sure on the front. I was gonna mount my leupold 2.5 scout but this barrel is pretty thin. I gotta check into the mounts and see what they have. They have a pretty decent QR scout mount but it uses a dove tail cut into the barrel and I just dont think theres enough meat for a dovetail to be cut into it. Oh well, no big deal.

Good luck on your rifle.

Keep the bear dick in the pics! As I sit here, there is the same coon dick (sharpened on the small end) beside th ekeyboard that I have used as a toothpick for at least 15 years, a couple of bear dicks on the shelf above me, a jar full of small species dicks (coon, otter, ermine, martin, fisher, fox, coyote, and probably some others), and an ossic handled knife I made just outside the door.

Where are you in AK?

Joel did that guy that sold you the barrel tell you the same story as me? "I can't tell you who makes it but I can assure you that you'll be happy with it, it is an airguaged, lapped premium barrel from a well known manufacturer"
Nice little barrel as I see it but you are right I wouldn't go cutting any dovetails in it there is not much there to mess with.
I can't wait to get mine shooting!

Where did the barrels come from and how much did they cost?
If you don't mind me asking.
