Rookie question, can a Mk-II barrel be used on an older tang safety M-77?

Same caliber, not worried about the stock. Replace a tang safety 77v heavy barrel with a standard contour factory take off Mk-II barrel in the same caliber. Or do I need a M-77 replacement barrel

Later production barrel quality seems to be better IMHO.

Thanks guys, I have this old 77v that I'm tired of lugging around. Have other groundhog rigs so it sits in the safe. Bought it so cheap that it's a shame not to do something with it. Am always seeing take off barrels and have been thinking(always dangerous)that it might be an inexpensive way to make a change.

The thread pitch for M700 and M70's is the same as the pitch for a M77 if you don't mind a Heinz 57 rifle.
