Got a Model 54 Winchester in '06 the other day. Metal is in great shape, bore wonderful, but the wood has to be replaced. Been broken and patchec with horrid aluminum bars on either side of the pistol grip. Who can I get an inletted stock from? Is the metal OK for anything larger? I was thinking a 308 Norma mag. Thanks for any suggestions.

Great American Gunstocks machines stocks for the 54 in the original factory dimensions. There has been one on their "Bargain" page recently. Try this link: Bargain Page Scroll down to the Model 54 stock.

Good for you. My 54 was an '06 and is now a 30-338. It shoots like a dream. Maybe a little light when I really go max on my loads and 180 grainers but I really enjoy it. I also have another barrel in 06 but once the bolt is opened up for the magnums there is no going back. I couldn't tell if the photo from the above post had the original looking Schnable stock or was straight but the wood looks good. Good shooting, Frank

Thanks for the info guys. As always, it's nice to hear from people with my kind of "problems". Mike
