BoulderBRNO CZ MAGNUM PAIR GUN PROJECT
Hi!
Being on this forum, I would need some assistance from this learned crowd.
I have bought two Brno CZ barreled actions. One 602 .375H&H Mag. and one 600 30-06. The 30-06 will be made into a 308 Norma Magnum and both will be polished, re-blued, fitted with new front (banded) and rear express sights, plus the necessary banded sling swivel.
I would like to fit them into two similar pieces of slightly above average quality. Oddly enough it seems easier and cheaper to buy the European walnut blanks in the US and not here in Europe. Could you please direct me in the right way where I could find and buy tose blanks. I have only been able to find one company myself and I would like to have something to compare with.
I look forward to some good advice and wish all of you Happy New Year!

jeffeossoHere's a couple links
http://www.gunstockblanks.co.uk/http://www.denli-gunstocks.com/http://www.hunterbid.com/http://www.clarowalnutgunstocks.com/products.htmhttp://www.gobywalnut.com/#blanksTo get you started. The first one is in the UK, the second is in Turkey, so you should be able to beat us on shipping.
Save yourself alot of trouble by emailing these folks, telling them what you would like to spend, and asking them to find you a matching pair, perhaps a couple, and send you pictures of them. You should receive pictures of both sides, the end, and the TOP/BOTTOM. THe last are generally *MY* personal favorites to look at, as they give you an indication of grain flow, better than not having them.,
the sides should be even in figure, if you possbily can get that. That is, the blank(s) shouldn't look GREAT on one side, and plain on the other, which frequently happens.
ask them the moisture level of the wood, it should be under 10% for decent wood.
I am certain you have more questions, and frankly, Bill Soverns or Chic Worthing have 20 times my knowledge of walnut.

BoulderThanks a lot. I especially appreciate jeffeossos good advice, as I am a novis in chosing and evaluating wood. As jeffeosso correctly points out, this should get me started in a nice way!
