Remington action replacement - UPS damage claim

Hi-

Can any of you direct me to where I can buy a Remington M700 long action (only). I need to submit it for an insurance claim.

UPS managed to sheer my beefy schedule 40 PVC shipping tube (impressive force) and permanently damage the blueprinted action, Krieger barrel, and lose the bolt and Jewell trigger that were inside. All we can guess is that it fell off of a very tall conveyor. Krieger received the broken tube today with tape over one end.

I am disgusted because I know this will take months for me to sort out.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks!

I just got off the phone with Brownell's who said they stopped carrying them 4 years ago when they couldn't get them anymore. They referred me to a nationally recognized gunsmith (won't say his name) in Oregon that specializes in M700s. He confirmed that Remington did not offer plain actions anymore either. He did offer a used replacement bolt to me for $200.

I then called Remington parts department. A nice gentlemen there confirmed that they did not sale the plain actions, but that they would replace the damaged action and bolt if I sent the action to them. The replacement bolt by itself through Remington would be $120.

What's even more strange is that the Remington parts guy said he did not understand how they were buying unbarreled actions, but he knew that Iron Brigade Armory was selling them new in the box.

I went there and found them at IBA for $425.

Interesting...

Yes, indeed. Just went to IBA. The action says "Call to Order" in the box to the right where you'd normally find "Add to Cart." I'm suspicious as to whether they really have them. I would think the ONLY place you could ever get just an action is from the maker himself unless special arrangements had been made, per the Brownells thing several years ago.

Why not just buy the barreled action and sell what you don't need? Shouldn't be too complicated. WalMart has been selling basic ADL long action 700's around these parts for about $300 - 350.

FWIW, I would be interested in hearing what 'permanent' damage could have occurred to a barreled action falling some distance while packed in a schedule 40 PVC tube.

No one will ever convince me that someone who works for UPS is not intentionally damaging firearms. I know of two different rifles that were apparently removed from cases, purposely damaged and then returned to the cases. I would tell UPS what they were to provide and tell them to get on it quick. I would be curious to see all the firearm damage claims broken down by terminals they went through I bet a pattern would emerge!

I wasn't going to say anything on here at first, but I do agree with you BobT. I am very suspicious as to how in the hell you could possible shear a 4" schedule 40 tube. I could drive my truck over that without putting a dent in it. I haven't seen the barrel or action, yet but I trust what the managers at Kreiger have to say.

He said they recently received a barrel shipped by UPS that had literally been bent into a complete "U" shape! That's impressive.

And as far as the action goes... I think I'll have to end up buying a whole rifle. I haven't heard back from IBA yet.

Thanks for the advice.

Even using the barreled action as a wheel chock for a 747 isn't going to do that kind of damage. Hopefully they are going to send you the barreled action back. Taking a line from one of our multi personalities on AR, I would sure like to see photo's of that.

Just to clarify, the horseshoe shaped barrel was not the condition of my barreled action, but rather another customer's. Its $40 shipping, so I probably won't get the old barrel back, but I believe what they have to say about it. I will get the action though.

Sorry pal, but that doesn't make sense. Can't the old barrel and action share the same box? I'm fixing to ship a barrel this afternoon and it is going to cost no more than $10.00. Were it me, and it clearly isn't, I would want "everything" back so I could file a proper claim. But good luck to you!

It took me a year to get a settlement from UPS.

My states Insurance Commissioner says what they sell as insurance is not insurance and therefore they don't regulate it.

I was in the process of serving subpoenas on them in state court and they paid the claim.

FexEx is just as bad about paying claims.

We've had three gun/stock shipments damaged by UPS, and all but the latest one have been paid, albiet with a long, drawn out process. I've still got an aluminum gun case here in the office they must have parked a forklift on, just to remind me of the delicate way they handle packages. If possible, you must disguise guns as something else, break them down, pack them in non-gun containers, and for the best shot at getting them where they are going in one piece, bite the bullet and ship next-day air, that gives them less time to play "toss the package" with their buddies.

Imagine my relief to finally receive my stock ,which was shipped insured,a week after the PO said it had been delivered to me.I was afraid that in the end ,it would be weeks to get reimbursed. It ended up sitting at the neighbors for a week, before I went and asked them if they had it.

I hate to add to the UPS horror stories, but they refused to honor a claim for a busted bottom tip of a butt stock they broke. These guys are just terrible.
