I am trying to replace some missing parts on my old rifle. Hope someoone out there has a broken or parted-out Lyman peep sight. A model 57 or similar Lyman peep sight has what I need. I need a Windage Knob (with lead screw). The windage knob I need is a field type, not a target type. Ones being sold on eBAy are traget knobs, so they will not work for me. Maybe someone that converted to target knobs would be willing to sell their old knob. Still need the knob. Note: I plan to modify the knob to use on my Model 71 Bolt Peep sight. Mod will be to recut the threads to 48 TPI to match the receptacle nut that is inside the bolt. Does it look like either one of these? 57SME sight has the later Target knobs, the orphan parts are the earlier universal knob and both are available (G). Do you need the aperture base and windage click spring? Please be advised that these sights had several different windage screw lengths, depending upon model, and also during different production periods Lyman used both right-hand and left-hand threads. We posted at the same time, sorry. Seems to me that it might be easier to make your knob since you seem to have a lathe. Just a thought. Regards, Joe __________________________ You can lead a human to logic but you can't make him think. NRA Life since 1976. God bless America! | |||

Bob, both my Lyman 57 stems are threaded 4-40, but both are LEFT-hand thread! I suspect your information may be for the later half-block Lyman 48, a somewhat more robust sight. The 48 sights use a different-sized head and (as you point out) the knurled 48 head would be slightly too large for your application. However the half-block 48 'hunter' knob doesn't have any knurls at all and so it may not be what you want either. The earlier full-block 48 used detachable set-screwed heads that IMO would also be too large. Sorry I can't offer more help.
