I had an old Stevens 311, for a truck gun that got the treatment. It survived. Can't say about others. Hog Killer IGNORE YOUR RIGHTS AND THEY'LL GO AWAY!!! ------------------------------------ We Band of Bubbas & STC Hunting Club, The Whomper Club

TCLouis, I can not give you a definitive answer. I can tell you that normal caustic salt hot bath blue jobs will disolve the solder in the ribs on most doubles. You might check with an outfit that does it and again, I can't offer someone to call. I am just a bundle of information, aren't I

Hmmmmmm...........well boiling water is okay for doubles....caustic bluing is usually run about 280 degrees. Not okay for doubles. So....to be safe if Parkerizing is over boing water temp.....I wouldnt try it. Not sure that helps much. What need is someone around here who actually does parkerizing to chime in and tell us the temp it runs at.

Hog Killer That is good to hear. An old Savage 311 came in the other day and although the solder seemed soft, it was yellow so I assumed it was silver soldered. Good to hear that it is. -Spencer

I think the Stevens 311's are brazed and won't be affected by the salts. The soft solder in doubles is attacked by the salts in a chemical reaction, so it is not just the heat to worry about.

TCLouis, The parkerizing solutions are used below boiling temperatures 200-205°F to keep the water losses down. The S/S barels should be fine, but plug the bores as some etching does occur. The soft soldered beads on rifles barrel front sights are unaffected on the ones I've Park'd. Hotshot

Thanks Mark, Brazing solves the problem of the solder being soft and yellow. Now I know. -Spencer

OK, so who looked into my gun supply and saw the 311s I have plans to parkerize. The 20 is the first NEW gun I ever owned and the first gun I bought with my own money. Funny in those days I walked into the store plunked my money down and walked out with it. Nobody did stupid things back then! LouisB Don't limit your challenges . . . Challenge your limits
