There has been both positive and negative comments made about Great American Gunstocks. I just wanted to share my experience.

In early September I called GAG and purchased this prefit Daly stock from their bargain sheet.

Since I was going out of town I asked them to hold it. When I got back they sent the wrong stock. I returned it and they couldn't find mine. So I waited while they made a new run of Daly's. They sent pictures of several equal or much higher priced stocks as potential replacements.

Then last week they found my original purchase in the back of willcall. I got it this weekend. The stock was everything I had hoped. The inletting was a press fit taking only a few minutes to fully inlet my barrel and action. The fit as good as or better than anything I had done from a 90% inletted blank.

Yes it was flustrating and took a little time but Henry made every effort to try and provide me a stock I would be please with. I think a lot of it was caused when I asked him to hold it for two weeks. He will get my business again.

As usual just my $.02

Thats a beautiful stock. I was also considering purchasing one from their "high end" collection but didn't like some nightmare stories I heard on these forums.

I might take a leap of faith and buy one anyways or have them finish and fit it too.

Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every once in awhile... but only after biting a whole bunch of rocks first!

GAG’s patterns and wood have always been very nice, it’s their cockeyed inletting and twisted shaping that causes most of the complaints.

Let us know what you think of the stock after you have the barreled action and bottom metal installed. Hopefully you got one of the acorns and not one of the rocks!

Rick,

I already have the metal in it. Needed to take some wood out for the barrel. The action and triggerguard pressed in. I had to hit it just a touch with sandpaper. Everything bottomed out aquare about 1/16" or less below the surface. Everything lined up perfect.

As my best friend always says "better lucky than good"

ramrod340,

GAG has the “potential†to put out a good product. I have a beautiful 1898 Krag Sporter stock I got from them that I was extremely pleased with. Then... there were the other four stocks I got in the same order that were totally unuseable. Two of them looked like a drunk Beaver with chipped teeth gnawed them out of some old drift wood.

Congratulations on getting a good one out of them.
