I have a used savage action I am building on. The action is not terrible, it is a little clunky. I would like to make it so it is smooth like glass.
Can you suggest where to start?
Thanks.

Have the action trued and timed. The timing of the cocking cam surface in the bolt is the largest reason for the roughness of the action feel.

Talk to Fred Moreo over at SharpShooters Supply he can make it slick.

Thanks for the suggestion. I talked to my gunsmith today and he said this is one of the things he does a lot of. I'm going over in a day or 2 to learn to do it as he does it.
