Got my first muzzle brake done and installed. Had alot of help from a great smith (Spearchucker) and not sure if this is his design or what but it works great.

Installed on a 270 WSM that would hit you a little and now recoil is almost nothing. Waiting on new bases before I can put scope on and test the previous accurate loads. Would be a shame to have to develop new ones (sarcasm inserted).

Excuse the egg shaped ports, that is what happens when you do not pay attention to your chamfer tool. Lesson learned. Ports are round actually just the edge is egg shaped. Won't happen again.

It was alot of fun building it and learned alot. My dad cut the barrel threads, not quite ready to do that yet on the lathe. But I built the brake itself.

Took about 1 hour for the brake and another hour for the barrel threads, which includes pulling it from the action and centering it in the lathe. By the way if you did not know (Im sure most do) that Winchester uses a type of thread locker on barrel threads. Was a SOB to get off, a torch helped.

This is the radial brake that I make.

No bottom ports to burn truck hoods or blow dust, rocks and sand.

Made to match the barrels contour.

Nice brake. Do you get any feeling of the muzzle dipping since you are expending gas up and to the sides?

I had an AR once with a simalar style brake and that feeling drove me crazy so I replaced it.
