Here are a couple I like. I have always felt that the two items I really like on these older rifles have to do with the pancake cheekpiece and the "thinner" wrist which is commonly found. Hopefully others will share some of their photos as well. I do enjoy seeing them as often as possible .
Good luck with your build.

Dear Late Bloomer:

If you PM me with your e-mail address, I have some photographs that I can send to you directly.

Dear Frank:

That Lyman 35 aperture sight on your 318 Westley Richards really makes it, doesn't it.

Sincerely,

I really like the early English stalking rifle and this is how I built my 1908 DWM 7x57.

Very nice.
Von Gruff, I really like the skeleton cap and butt. I guess I had not seen enough of those to appreciate them.

Hi Chris, the beauty is that sight does not require drilling into the action. It attaches to the bolt release with a simple screwdriver.

The use of the octagon barrel really adds to the image of the 7x64

Nice, I just bought another of those, a 7mm, with the later "flattops" a couple of weeks ago. With the 23.6" bbl., as shown and unless they are truely mint, I like to open them to .280R., put on a 3-pos. safety and a synthetic stock...perfect "mountain rifle".

These are still fairly common here in Canada, but, the good ones command a decent price and tend to sell quite quickly.

I am in the middle of putting together a rifle just like the one you are talking about.
I am using a VZ-24 action and an ER Shaw barrel , in 7X57.
I got what I think is a heck of a deal on a stock similer to the one on the 9.3X57 in this thread.
Mine has a little higer comb, so It will be a little better for a scope, but the comb is still kind of low so Back up sights are more than a decoration.
Just took some quick pic,s for you, and if you are interested I will try and find out where my smith got it.
He may have been sitting on it for a long time , so he might not even know.
pic-s on the way. ...tj3006

I had some trouble posting the pic, and I have to run, but I can post some more when I get back.
FYI I have sanded the hell out of this thing aready,it was very rough when i got it.
If there are any proes out there who would like to PM about taking over from my unskilled hands please feel free,
I will be using a commercial FN bottom and a VZ-24 action. Still waiting for the barrel...tj3006

The rings are Talley's, the bases where made by Micheal Scherz. He's a pretty talented gunsmith.

I used an old Guild stock for the pattern. It's been modified quite a bit though. The grip was re-done along with the schnabel tip. The cheeck piece was also added.

Cliff Sticklstad duplicated the top one and Shane Thompson did the bottom one for me.

Here are some pictures of the pattern. I was really into this stuff at one time.

here are a couple more pictures of mine,
A little better Idea than the 1st picture.
Its got a steel checkerd grip cap and but plate, the but plate has a nice curv and a widows peek on top.
I just about have the action fitted, but the bottom has a way to go yet.
I am planning to taking to a pro to finish it as I would bust my knee trying to kick myself in the butt if i wrecked it.

Thomas,
Inlet the bottom metal first, then use a guide screw to inlet the action down. Trust me, that is the right way to do it.
best,

Thanks Rich, they don't compare to others on this thread but I'm proud of them.

Your 9X57 would be the one I would take to the smith and ask for a copy of. I love the lines. thumb

Terry,
could you send me a few additional photos of this barrel. I am in the middle of a project and may go with one similar to this. I am also looking at a full length rib octagon. This is a beautiful rifle BTW.

Thanks for the advise steve, But I think I have done about all I am going to do as far as inletting goes.
The action came fairly close to dropping in.
I just took a little bit of wood off, and then we had 3 days of 106 106 and 104, and suddenly the action dropped right in.
I see what you mean though as the front screw hole is not centerd real well.
I could center it by taking some wood off the other side, but I am goona stop here.
I am prety sure any minor imperfectins in my work so far can be fixed with a good glass bedding.
But thanks...tj3006

Can you post a few extra pics of the Scherz mounts, please? I am thinking of using him for a set of similar mounts on my CZ.

Thanks, I'll look forward to it. BTW, Mike says he likes to recontour the front bridge of the CZ when he does those mounts. Wondering if you've ever seen one done that way?
