Hoppe's TORNADO brush, have anyone used these? Never heard them mentioned here before
Are they better brushes?

They're great for cleaning shotgun bores. I have never used them on rifles or handguns.

Smoothbore brush only. Not to be used on rifled barrels!!! They are the best thing for safely scrubbing lead, plastic wad, and powder fouling out of shotgun barrels.

Don't use it in any rifled barrel! You will ruin your bore quicker than by doing almost anything else. A stainless "brush" was never meant to go in a rifled bore. It's a marketing gimmick with NO valid reason for being. Stick to good solvents on bronze or nylon (my favorite) brushes. Nothing tougher than that ever needs to go through your barrel.

I have one of those Tornado brushes in 12 ga. I bought the brass version of course.

I understand how this brush will clean a smoothbore barrel, for a rifled barrel the regular ( brass! ) brush is better, as it gets in the grooves.

A regular brass brushes will just cut a groove in lead or plastic in a shotgun. Perhaps the Tornado brush is better there.

I strongly recommend the Otis system for shotgun cleaning.

The Tornado stainless brush works great in a shotgun, but dont use it with a power drill and don't overdo it. Also, watch out for your chokes, the stainless is harder than the barrel and with overuse can actually increase the bore and open the choke. A brass brush is really better and safer for the gun.

I've used those brushes on SMOOTHBORES ONLY for longer than I want to remember and haven't used any other type of brush since I came across them. THEY ARE AGGRESSIVE in their cleaning but the way the loops are designed, flexible and no pointy things sticking out, I haven't seen any evidence of damage in any of my tubes.

They work great if you follow the instructions and don't get too wild in the stroking department (isn't that always the case).

With todays wad cups you don't get as much leading as in the "good old days" and the modern cleaning solvents do a much better job on the junk that sticks to the sides.

I have Tornados I'm still using that are older than my kids that have kids of their own and the brushes are still going strong. Try 'em, You'll like 'em!
