Never had a need before. Looking for fast and good, not too worried about the price. Thanks,
Steve

The Ceracote website has a list of their certified applicators as they call them.

Ok, it is just paint and anyone who can blast and paint, can apply it; I have done it many times. It is not the rocket surgery that many believe.

I think the big problem that people have with Wondercoat, paintycoat, supercoat and coatycoat is that guys get it done and find that it scratches, dings and scrapes so easily. Then they get into internet forums like this, go drinking with their buddies or talk to someone else that sells it and the general consensus is that: "Properly applied, the stuff is totally indestructible and won't warp, chip, peel, fade or scratch and will resist shark bite, bear attack and children under 5."

The problem is that there isn't anyone in the world that can apply it properly and that's why it always warps, cracks, chips, peels, fades and scratches.

Well, like Tom pointed out, it's paint. Don't expect to much from it. If you need a lesson in paint. Find some big, ugly biker and whip out your dirty old handkerchief and start buffing the shiny ass gas tank on his Harley with it. Lesson will be received.

When I was a kid. I had the stick. I had the rock. And I had the mud puddle. I am as adept with them today, as I was back then. Lets see today's kids say that about their IPods, IPads and XBoxes in 45 years!

Very good comment.
Here is a low tech application that works ok.
1. Heat parts in oven to about 150 F.
2. spray with Krylon Dual superbond lawn furniture paint.

No Joke! it works pretty well.

Though I agree with many here that Cerokote is in the end just paint and will eventually scratch or wear, there's definitely a proper way to apply it and it's often times applied poorly. Poor prep work to bad spray technique will bring unsatisfactory results. Lots of guys can rig up an oven, buy a harbor freight hvlp gun and coat parts. When the customers inevitably complain of the crappy finish the response is "what did you expect, it's just paint". Cerokote done well is appealing to the eye (IMHO) and holds up descent. On a pistol carried in a holster it will wear rather quickly. On a rifle, unless dragged through the mud, it will hold up for many years.

Any of these modern name brand coatings, and I have used most of them, will hold up until you drop it in the dirt and rocks, then it chips. And so will any $250 cerakote job. Even properly applied, it is still paint. In fact, some think that the harder it is, the more easily it chips and the harder it is to repair.

Agreed. I think the biggest problem with Cerokote is the bold claims they make in their advertising. It's not bullet proof. But applied well, it looks nice, and until you put a scratch in it your guns essentially waterproof. I use it on all my waterfowl guns and since I beat the hell out of them I end up having to re-coat ever other year Smiler I also have it on several rifles that I hunt with regularly. I take pretty good care of them, and on one in particular, still looks brand new after five years of heavy use.

I have had two rifles painted with Cerakote. One is holding up very well. The other is horrible. Two different vendors. The one that is holding up is out of business.

I have had much better luck with Black Ice Coatings. It is PFTE (Teflon) coating. I have a rifle done with it over 10 years ago and it still looks the same as the day I got it back, and I have used that rifle a lot including falling and having it hit the dirt and rocks. No effect.

Just my experience.
