I was wondering what the consensus is on the barrel fluting (stainless barrel to be put on a custom rifle). I like the cosmetic aspect of it, but Lilja and Shilen do not agree. I went to both websites today. Lilja says fluting wont hurt the barrel, Shilen is the exact opposite.

The time to spec out a custom project is nearing in a couple weeks. (My first). This is one detail that needs to be figured out.

I asked this same question several months back ("to flute, or not to flute") and it resulted in a long thread with lots of responses by some very saavy people. Do a "search" on the topic and you can read all about it in that thread.

I have both fluted and unfluted rifles and notice no loss in accuracy with fluting.In fact my most accurate hunting rifle is a 7mmstw with a fluted barrel.
