ColoradoMattS&W mod 66 and 69 shrouded barrels- why?
Why does S&W put shrouded barrels their model 66 and 69 L-frame revolvers? Matt

congomikeMy opinion? Profit. Easier to fit a two piece barrel so that the cylinder forcing cone gap is correct. Cheaper to manufacture. Also accuracy seems to be equal to, or better than a one piece. Look at the old Dan Wesson revolvers. They won many a match. Also people could interchange barrels themselves, but S&W doesn't give us that option. From what I have read, they can be a real hassle to get on and off unless you have the proper tools, which S&W won't sell. Personally, I like the old style S&W's and won't own one with the lock or MIM parts.
By the way, how is the 416 coming along?
