| Ray, not an expert by any shot but it will fit the right 700 action. Could be a long action or short. Also it is possible that it is set up as a single shot or an ADL |

| ray,
Most of the 40X’s are slightly larger in receiver diameter than the 700’s. Also, the bottom 180 degrees of the receivers are ground between centers to be concentric to the axis of the receiver bore and to aide in bedding.
Assuming it was built for a repeater and not a single shot the stock should work on a 700 but will probably be a bit loose and in need of bedding. |

| Hello, Used to buy 40x stocks from Gun Parts Inc. for 35.00 for std. grade and 40.00 for select!! If for rim fire, has bolt head inletting in receiver area and if was from center fire no problem. No repeaters, just single shots and always installed single shot adapter/plate in action of 700 and worked very well indeed. Simply bed it and take up any "space" that may be there and it is good to go. Most accurate 1000 yard rifle I ever had and shot for some years was one of the 40.00 stocks, bedded by Master Class, Krieger barrel/30" and 308 w/ Jewell trigger and you had to almost shake the rifle hard to take it out of the 10 or X ring at 600 to 100 yards with the right loads and proper sling tension. Those were the days!!!
PS Believe all 40X rifles, regardless of caliber are of short action. Example: If 300 Win Mag, and shot not taken after inserting in chamber, must remove bolt to remove round. Not really a problem for slow fire long range and shots rarely not taken, but if problem in pits, whatever, take the bolt out and remove round. Not a big deal. |

A shooter I knew had the 40X in 7MM Rem Magnum and it was a short action. I remember reading that the Remington catalogs did not offer the 40X repeater in any of the longer rounds. |

| All 40X actions were the 308 length. The 40X stock will accept a 700 action with little or no fuss. |
