Hi i have a rem222 with a heavy barrel--it shoots some good groups
but not very consistent --the action is bedded and 2 1/2 in
of the barrel-thinking about removing the bedding under the barrel --it s Rem 700 short action
Any ideas ???

I have one too. Rem 700 BDL Varmint Special walnut stock. Check the crown. Mine was chipped. I had a target crown done and now it shoots ragged holes.
