Scope mounting system

To not hijack Woodjack's thread on the Hagn small action, one thing I'm trying to sort out is the quarter rib scope mounting system for a small action Hagn singleshot. I've narrowed it down to choosing between the Recknagle type mounts or a basic claw mount. The idea is to keep the rifle as sleek as possible without changing the handling qualities, and of course, keeping the fine classic lines of the rifle. Here's a similar rifle:

Of the two types, which would be the most desireable (keeping in mind the priorities above)?

The Recknagle type:

The classic claw mount:

Like any of us would know what to tell you??

I've never used the Recknagel system, but it looks good enough. Personally, I'd go with whatever Ralf recommends.

I do know that the classic claw mount (done right) is very hard to beat. Without knowing what Ralf had to say, this set-up gets my vote.

Whichever mount you pick, use a Leupold scope with long eye relief so that the eyepiece does not hang back over the grip so much.

Forrest,
It seems that Ralf and Martin may be split on their recommendation! I think Ralf likes the claw mount, but Martin is pretty set on the Recknagel. I like the claw mount a little more myself, because of that fantastic claw mount Duane has on the 500 Jeffery. Martin thinks it might be a little big on the small action, though. I guess we'll see in January.

vigillinus,
I'm a fan of Leupold scopes, they seem to be the best compromise in optics, lightweight and bulk for a rifle of this size. I think both Martin and Ralf are convinced the rail scopes from Swarovski are the way to go for either of these mounting systems. If I go with a ring setup with the claw mount, the front ring would have to be on the objective bell like Forrest's pair of Reno accounting Mausers. Certainly is an attractive way to go.

One thing I've never had a problem with that seems to plague most Ruger No.1 shooters is proper eye relief. Not sure if it is a combination of the Ruger have the correct length of pull or if my natural shooting form just coincides with the Leupold eye relief and and length of pull.
