7mm Dovetail for front sight?

I have a 1903 Mannlicher-Schoenauer that was re-barreled by John MacPherson (Inverness). At 100 yds, it consistently shoots about 8-10" low, and I've tried just several bullet weight/ powder combinations.

Obviously one solution is a shorter front sight. (I'm also pretty certain the current front sight isn't original - it just doesn't look right.) Using my calipers, I measure the base of the dovetail to be 0.275", or right around 7mm. Is this a common dovetail size in Europe/ England? Any idea on where to find a replacement, or will I be looking at a custom job?

Thanks,
Washougal Chris

since the front sight is not original to the gun why don't you just file it to the correct height & be done with it?

Try to look unimportant. Your enemy might be low on ammo.

Unfortunately it's not a straight blade, but has a bead-like top part. I'm still tempted to take a file to it regardless and see what happens.
