My lilja arrived at the gunsmith's yesterday! I would like to have a iron sight backup system on this rifle. I have heard that someone makes a QD base/ring with an integral peep--any guidance? I want the bases/rings to look classy and not cost a fortune if possible. Also, ideas for a front ramp/bead would be great also. Thanks in advance for the help. BTW, MRC 1999 action (.330 rear spacing) Thanks Jay Kolbe [ 07-31-2003, 20:37: Message edited by: snowcat ]

quote:I did a homemade peep on a Weaver mount once, worked all right once it was shimmed up on target. Also used a slightly higher front sight to get it into adjustment range. There used to be a Redfield mount with a flip-up peep sight, also. Tom [ 07-31-2003, 20:44: Message edited by: TomP ]

Jay, Check Jim Brockman's Pop-Up Peep sight and his Gen III front sights. http://www.brockmansrifles.com/sight_options.asp I have a set of the Gen III sights on an iron-sighted .375 H&H, and they work fine. jim dodd

I once had the folding peep from a Redfield base screwed to the back of a Weaver base. The only thing I didn't like was that it could fold at the wrong moment. XS Sight Systems makes one that does not fold for the 700 Remington. It won't fit your MRC, but it wouldn't hurt to email them and demand one that would. I have one of their Remington sights on my CZ 550; it's as ugly as homemade soap but it works perfectly. Okie John

thanks for the help guys. I have a call into Brockman's to see if they make a pop-up on a low mount base. If not I'll go with the Talleys and put a trapdoor grip cap on the stock I'm doing and store the peep there. I may also try to machine a top mount receiver peep to install behind the rear base.

XS Sight Systems (formerly Ashley) makes a rear ghost ring backup that attches to any Weaver, Ruger, Warne, & Sako base. The also have a Weaver style rear base for Rem 700 that has an integral ring. And Warne used to make rear base with an integral peep, though I don't know if they still do. Rob
