how long between coats of tru-oil and steelwooling?

I've found that it depends a lot on the humidity. Here on the coast it runs about 85-90% most of the time. With Tru Oil I've recoated in as little as 12hrs, but then at other times I could still feel "tack" after 48.

I would suggest never using steel wool on a rifle finish as it leaves particles of steel wool in the finish that in time will rust and pop out the finish...Better to use wet or dry sandpaper in 320, 400.

With Laminated wood you cannot use a sanded in finish to fill the pores for the most part, therefore it is much better to use a Plastic finish like GunSavR from Brownells or Flecto from your local hardware store as these finishes are mucn more moisture proof than Truoil, which is an excellent finish on walnut or any other pores wood....

hey guy's thanks for your response. since i posted i have put four coats on took one to two and half hours to dry between coats. used 0000steel wool between coats first 3 coats last coat i rubbed in then took an old t=shirt and rubbed to a nice finish. i'm going to let this set till after work tommorrow.
ray your advice about the steel wool makes since but too late. i have 400 and 600 sandpaper that i will use next thanks to your suggestion.
