Austin HunterCustom Gun Case Parts
Does anyone know where to get bare kits or parts to make fitted gun cases? Both for take downs and full length rifles? Not hard sided airline approved travel cases, but something akin to the high end shotgun cases. I wanted to start with a frame or skeleton and do my own leather and hide work on it, etc.

jimatcatlook for tandy leather's website.... they have all sorts of patterns in catalogues....i'm making a take-down syle case for my DR...ive made patterns out of paper, then moved to cloth... leather comes next... if will will sell me some elephant hide

I've only built wooden cases but here's a link for thin plywood (aircraft type).. though you could probably use door skin plywood.

lee440I have restored the interiors of several old english shotgun cases. Lowes has a line of oak in 1" thru 4 inch widths, 3/16 thick and several lengths that are perfect for making the dividers. Tandy is so high on their leather that you can buy one from Jeffs outfitters for less than you can build it.
