Friend of mine, my Taxidermist, wants to trade me some work for credit at his shop. He wants me to put a brake on his Win 70 300 WSM. Im not much into brakes myself but to each his own. In any event I need a few recommendations on what brake to put on his rifle. Standard factory contour. Thanks!

I make a radial ported brake with no ports on the bottom. You will have to time it by faceing off the extra stock. I leave enough for almost a full turn ________________________________________________ Maker of The Frankenstud Sling Keeper Proudly made in the USA Acepting all forms of payment

Use tapered crush washers and they are easy to time.

Brakes do not belong on "pretty" rifles; they are just for function. Not looks.

Brakes are pretty simple to make, but for the price I've used several of these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/263314097779 The body is round, so I pop them in a collet, bore out the back end, tap to 5/8 and install. The bore hole is probably oversize, but they work. I put one on a 338/300RUM with the original bore hole. The brakes with no ports on the bottom mean you eat less dirt when shooting prone, but then they have to be timed. If he wants an expensive brake, I'd suggest a thunder beast arms brake. Once he shoots it a few times, he might want to install the muffler that TBA makes to fit their brakes.

I strongly disagree with you.....but that's nothing new ________________________________________________ Maker of The Frankenstud Sling Keeper Proudly made in the USA Acepting all forms of payment

Harrels Precision makes good brakes at a very reasonable price. I have installed several and Harrels is a fine outfit to deal with. .

Yeah...I vote for Harrell's also...many variations, I've used several...including my home made copies of most of the commercial offerings...I just can't make one for the price of Harrell's or the time. Crush washer or shims make timing a snap. You might also check-out Witt Machine, I have two of his $100.00(OUCH) clamp-ons - very easy to put on/take off even in the field...mark the location with a tiny dot and accuracy doesn't seem to suffer between swaps...does have an effect with/without but easily adjusted for if you do your target work...AND THEY WORK!!!! Might be considered TOTALLY UGLY by some, but hey...I think a Chebby Corbett is ugly also...so who cares about personal opinions anyway...we're ALL ego maniacs in this game. Good Hunting
