Is there an easy way to determine the twist in a barrel. I bought a used rife and would like to know what the twist, i.e. 1 x 9, 1 x12, etc, it is. US Navy RETIRED NRA LIFE MEMBER

Cleaning rod, tight patch, sharpie and a ruler. Draw a line down the length of the rod Insert rod w/patch into barrel. Mark the length line at the muzzle Push the rod in until the length line makes 1 full turn, and mark it again at the muzzle. Remove the rod and measure between the lines. Note there might be some "slippage" of the patch IE distance = 11 3/4" (non-standard twist) actual twist is 1-12
