Could a Interarms Mark X 7x57 be rechambered to 280AI? If so is the factory barrel worth rechambering? But then again why not, if it doesn't shoot you've not spent that much to rechamber. If it does you've saved the cost of a new barrel. How long is the factory barrel?

Mark---

It can be IF You first chamber cast the 7x57 and measure the neck diameter. Most 7x57s are larger in the neck than the 280 AI neck is. That means you'll have a really strange looking double neck.

Since the M-98 only has six threads and a necking cut, to set it back two threads to get rid of the old neck means you reduce the strenght of the action/barrel conection by 33% !!! AND end up with a higher pressure cartridge.......not real smart.

Cast the chamber and and check the 280 reamer, it might be right...... If need be, you can rent a neck reamer to even out the neck and make it a useful conversion without sacraficing safety.
