I have a very dark piece of curly black walnut. Is there a stock finish that darkens least? This will be a gorgeous piece of wood if I can keep it from darkening too much with the finish. Thanks.

Good hunting,

Andy

Andy,

Permalyn tends to work very well for that. I dont have any experience with other "gunstock" finishes. Dalys BenMatte is another good finish as well as good ole spar varnish.

didn't Monty Kennedy advocate spar varnish and thinned tung oil as his favorite finish? My book is in the car and I'm too lazy to go look
