Are all Sako tapered scope rails the same or are there variations? I just picked up a L61R long action and am seeing two different talley bases for the same action... What gives?

Nevermind. Called talley and there are indeed two different tapers on various model sako rifles. I was under the impression they were all the same. Nope.

The tapers are the same, but the length of the rear dovetail is shorter on the medium and short actions. Many manufacturers' bases will fit either the shorter or long actions. Ringmounts like the original Sako mounts or Leupold ringmounts clamp directly on either short or long dovetails and require no bases. This design is superior to those mounts which require bases.
