I bought a Wheeler drill and tap jig from Midway a couple years back, and have used it on several 98 Mausers with no complaints. I have a very nice 96 Mauser in 6.5X55 and want to tap it as well. I am having trouble locating the rear holes on the reciever; only locates one hole on the rear with jig installed. I used the same plate as for a 98 Mauser and the instructions, (such as they are) didnt mention of drilling for a 96, but the Midway Master catalog states the jig can be used for 96 Mausers. I called Midway and of course all they could do is read me the instructions again, no tech. support at all. Is the Wheeler drill and tap jig compatible for a 96 Mauser and if so can someone tell me how to set it up? Any help is appreciated.

Good luck and good shooting,
Eterry

I think you played with it enough, you could get it work. As you know, there's not much to a Wheeler jig and it does kind of lend itself to interpretation when you need to do something outside what the instructions state. One thing I recommend is using a two piece of some variety as that should lessen the spacing issues.

If all else fails, Battenfield Technologies produces the Wheeler brand. Google them up and try contacting them. Who knows? Maybe they do have a tech support line.
