HutzpahBlueing lead free solder.
I have just finnished a box mag and now have it working.
My question is-
Is it possible to have it blued as it's
made of sheet steel and welded with lead free solder?
I think the solder is 99% tin(grade 99c) or could I use Brownells soft solder black over the whole mag?
I,m a bit lost in what to do next.Your help would be much appreciated.
Thanks Hutzpah.

p dog shooterFirst off one can not blue solder lead free or not. One does not weld with solder one solders.
To get the solder to match or have it the same color one would have to use some other coating or coloring then Bluing. If one looks at solderd joints on blued guns one well see the solder line. Bluing is a controled rusting process. Lead nor tin rusts.
One of the spray on bake on finishes could be the way to go.

jeffeossocaswell plating offers a silver blackening kit.. i haven't tried it, but i am impressed with their black oxide..
I'll be trying it in awhile.. just not today.
if HIGH temp solder is used, it will blue in hot blue.

Rick 0311Brownells (of course) sells "Solder Black" that will work on both soft and silver solders.
Their part # 083-032-004 (silver solder)...#083-032-014 (soft solder)
Haven't tried it...but they have been carrying it for years and if stuff doesn't work they will normally stop carrying it.

ShopCartRacingI have always had the same feelings as Rick.
If it is something Brownells bothers to carry, and keeps carrying, then it must be good.

HutzpahFirstly thanks for the replys.
I tryed to silver solder the the first one I made but
the torch head on my Rothhenberger gas gun was just to big. The steel went like a bannana.
It looks like Brownells the way to go.
I will be happy with any colour of black/blue.
At the moment it looks like a tin can with the paper peel off coming out of the gun.
cheers
