Finally got to look at a Browning short trac and it says it is adjustsable for drop at heal, pitch ? drop at comb and cast off. I've been shooting for 50 yrs and never bothered to pay attention to this stuff. I just adapted to the rifle. So what is all this stuff and what's it for ? I liked the rifle just the way it was when I picked it up, but if there are ways to improve it What pitch drop, cast off etc. does an averge sized person need?

Sometimes you get the bear, sometimes the bear gets you. Either way it's alwasys exciting. Sieze the Day !

Depending on how you shoulder your rifle...what types of shooting positions you use...and what type of sights you use (iron or scope)...these things might become important.

Basically, they all relate to making the sights and the rifle line up properly when you shoulder it, and they also can have an effect on how the weapon reacts to the force of the recoil against your shoulder. Does it come straight back?...Does it twist in or out?...does the muzzle rise right or left, or straight up?

Like just about everything, the answers to your questions are only limited by the number of people you ask!

If your rifle is adjustable in these areas I would suggest “playing around†with the adjustments during a shooting secession and see what feels best and works for your personal style of shooting.

If it ain’t broke...don’t try to fix it!!
