Can you ream a 6.5-284 winchester bore to accept the 6.5-284 Norma brass?

the difference between 6.5x284 and the norma version is a difference in overall length, the norma version is listed as max of 3.310" where the 6.5x284 has a overall length of 2.800" the case dimension remains the same just the leade of the bullet to rifling

The bases are different by about .005. 6.5 284 norma brass will not load in a winchester bore. I was hoping I could get my barrel to accept the norma brass. The case trim lengths are the same at 2.170 in the book so there isn't a difference there which made me think I could get it reamed. Norma and Lapua brass is readily available.

.005 is nothing. If you barrel is throated for an AOL of 2.8 it is no big deal to cut the throat deeper. Just rent you a 6.5 throat reamer. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

I thought most reamers were ground to the Norma specs. Check with your 'smith and see what his reamer measures at the base. Chances are it will be large enough to open yours up to accept the Norma brass. "Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading".

Kanga, Get a Redding small based sizing die for the 284. It will resize your brass...then go shoot. Bill
