HP-22 woes

I removed a cracked grip panel on my Phoenix Arms HP-22 in order to replace it with a new one sent to me by the factory. In the process of doing so, the safety spring and the sear spring came out. I cannot get the sear spring back in to save my life. The spring looks like the letter "b". The circular portion is a couple wraps to make a coil, with a hook projection added. Apparantly, the spring in it's entirety needs to set down in a recess in the frame casting. I have no good parts diagram to work from, but as near as I can tell the spring needs to be put down into the recess and the hook part pushed back to load the spring, and them it should flush in the recess. Either I am completely wrong in that opinion about how it fits, or there is some trick that I don't know to get that bugger back in. ANY help would be much appreciated!
I can only think of two guns that I've ever bought that I wish I had not. This HP-22 is a hot contender for becoming the third Mad

Phoenix does not have a website, sad to say.
I have the schematic for the gun. The problem is that I cannot get the spring to "load" against the sear as I suspect it should. Best case would be a pic of one installed on a gun, but I've not been able to find anyone with an HP-22 and a digital camara!
Once this is together and working, I'm thinking I'll trade it for a Beretta Tomcat......
