I'm a big supporter of Ahlman's checkering, for the proper gun. Years ago, I swore by their metalwork and finishing, including some of the best charcoal coloring I have ever had done. Don't know what happened, but based on several pieces sent to them last year, I can't recommend any of their metal work or metal finishing.

My own experience with Ahlman's was kinda/sorta the same only different (grin). Years ago I built a custom pre-64 Win in 220 Swift for a friend but he wouldn't give me enough time to checker it. He sent it to Ahlman's and their checkering results made me want to cry. A few years ago I saw another example of their checkering and it definitely didn't impress me. Let's put it this way: IMO their results I've seen wouldn't even COME CLOSE to any of the simplest Guild work I've seen, quality-wise. Just my experience, YMMV.
Regards, Joe
