Anyone making 3.6" inside box length 30-06 Mauser 98 bottom metal? I know that it would be no trick to lengthen a box myself.

Yes, but do they make 375 length in 06' width?

Matt,
You lost me. Looking at Dwayne's site on his Normal Magnum box he simply claims extra capacity if you choose an 06 based instead of magnum brass. Would the longer box not be the same?

I own one of Duane's standard depth/length '06 family specific units, but had not noticed that he advertised his belted mag units as suitable for use with '06, as well. When it comes to Mauser box dimentions, and getting specific rounds to feed, there certainly are many ways to skin a cat. There are supposedly "ideal" box, well, rail, and feed ramp dimensions for any given round. However, there is obviously too much variation in cartridge shapes to make one for each and every round. The reason I'm interested in 3.6" '06 metal is for long bullet seating in the 400 Whelen and 9.3x62. Since the 400 Whelen and 9.3x62 have wider shoulders than the '06, perhaps a Wiebe H&H box would work better. BTW, my Wiebe standard '06 box was adapted to a 1910 Mexican in 9.3x62. It's not "perfect" for the application, but more than adequate, and feeding turned out pretty darn slick (Thanks to DPCD)!

Yep I notice the same issue with my PDKs. A 5 down 06 box becomes a 4 down. However I hit the shoulder area with a file and in a few minutes I'm back to a 5 down. Tight but functional.

Maybe Dwayne is taking a mag box and using it for the 06. Instead of the old take a 06 and force a mag case in it.

I've thought about a longer box for my 400PDK but it just looks so smooth at 3.34 crimped in the cannelure. Those long seated bullets just don't appeal to me. But they do gain you some significant net powder capacity.

A 9.3x62 could use a longer box but the 9.3x66 screams for it.

would SOMEBODY WHO USES A Haas or other cnc machine (such as Swift-Blackburn or Sunnyhill) be able to alter their program to adjust the width of the box for you.

Have you ever thought about getting yourself a cannelure tool?

Thanks for your comments, BTW!

That is possible, but it would be a pain in the but for them, so I would think unlikely. However, it never hurts to ask!

Most will for a minimum purchase of 20. But that makes for an expensive box. Unless this is something worth the money for a one off, I'd get a 375 and shim the sides. You can dial in the box pretty exact if you have a sine plate for the surface grinder. Epoxy them in and you will be the only one that knows they are there.

Sure, Then I'd have 2 lines. Wink

Or as several have on the Whelen there is several bullets out there that have multiple points. As it is my 2.65" brass and 400gr in the cannelure come in just a touch over 3.34". To seat the bullet out I would need a longer box like you are searching for.

As I sit my hunting load for a 400 is in the cannelure functions smoothly and gives me 2256fps. Switch powder and 2350fps is doable.

I have run the calculations and if I went the 3.6" box I could gain 14% net capacity. But decided I didn't need to hit anything that much harder.

I have an AV (short Tang) in 30-06. I had Jim Kobe put on a 9.3x66 Sako barrel. The rounds fit and feed just fine as long as you use the cannelures to crimp. the 9.3 bullets tend not to protrude as much from the case as do the various 30-06 bullets.
