Lock washers under scope mount screw heads?

I was wondering if anyone has ever put lock washers under scope mount screw heads.

Why or why not?

I had a one piece steel Mauser scope mount come loose on me at the range yesterday, an hour after I installed it by screwing it on as tight as one dares with the little 6-48 screws. It is an 8 pound 260Rem so recoil is not what got it, it must have been the heat from firing 30 rounds.

Probably hard to find a lock washer that would fit in the hole, and they will gall the screw and pocket.

You are much better off tightening to a reasonable torque and using blue loctite. I seriously doubt that your rings heated up enough to back the screws out.
