Greetings all. I would like to know how you fill up the hole on the top of a winchester 1917 action? I have one that I made up a steel piece that will be tig welded in place. There are other methods out there I'm sure. So share them with us. Thanks, Frank | ||

Fitting and welding a plug is as good a way as any. Be sure to use the right material and fill rod, and don't forget to carefully draw the temper from the weld prior to any finish work. _______________________________________________________________________________ This is my rifle, there are many like it but this one is mine. I've always thought a gracefully styled dovetail base with an oval tenon on the underside could be sweated in and the forward end secured with a screw into the existing tapped hole. | |||

Not likely that anyone has ever done this but a plug could be E beam welded in place. This type of welding is done with surgical instruments so seal press fit pins so they do not harbor bacteria. | |||

Thank to you all.I have a winnie action with a 21" long barrel on it for some years. The bore is in excellent shape and prior to getting the hole plugged wanted the opinions of those who have done this work. Thanks again, Frank | |||

I have always thought of the hole in the sight bridge as a hole than can be filled with a circle (round piece of metal) and a half moon piece, in the old days Remington was the first choice because it did not have the hole, then came Winchester, after that Eddystone, the quality of the Eddystone was anyones guess. I have two, one is cracked (scrap), the other has .016 head space. F. Guffey | |||
