Which company offering semi-inletted Mauser stocks has the best inletting? By "best" I guess I mean clean cuts that dont need a lot of additional wood removal. Some of these things look like they were chopped out with an axe and not very well centered. Thanks

The 'cleanest' inletting I have seen in from the Midway USA / Fajen stocks. Unfortunately, on the one I had, the inletting for the bottom metal was about 1/8" too far back for the receiver inletting up top (or vice versa, if you please). The action screws didn't line up between triggerguard and receiver -- fixing it would have resulted in a big gap somewhere, depending on which you decided to relocate. They did refund it cheerfully, to their credit, and I remain a happy customer.

The best inletting I have seen so far was from Great American Gunstocks. I had heard bad things about them, but finally decided to try it myself and was immensely pleased. RMF is a little 'rough,' and I have heard Elk Ridge is rougher but have not seen it myself.

Todd,When you bought the stock from Great American did you get a semi-inletted or let them inlet it for your rifle?I have read some bad comments on them also but talked to the owner last year and he seemed like a nice guy.I bought an AA grade from RMF a few years ago and it was not as advertised they seem to be a little wacky about how they grade wood. Thanks

Timbolero,

I got a semi-inlets, with 1/2" bbl channels. Henry is VERY nice, make sure you order from him. He will get exactly what you want. Wood is nice also, and properly laid out. When compared to others, I was amazed at how THICK his stocks were -- my stocks finally look substantial enough for my hands.

A simi inlet never finishes up properly as far as I am concerned, always spots where wood is missing, nature of the beast...

If you making a hunting rifle and glass it and just want a shooter, they will do.
