Bought an used Win M70 RH Controlled feed Featherweight in 22-250 and just realized that when loading the Magazine, the left side cartridges get angled to the right to far and jamb before they reach the chamber.
Is this anything I can fix? What might the fix be? The cartridges on the right side of the magazine feed fine.
Thanks,

Im no gunsmith, but the cure should be to file down the front of the left feed rail.

Let a good smith do it, unless you might run into other trouble.

Good shooting! Hermann

Removing metal might be what it takes to fix it, but it should be the last thing you try! Take too much metal off and you have a single shot rifle.

The problem can be very subtle. Look at the lips of the bent-metal magazine. Are they the same on both sides? Is the magazine cocked to one side due to stock interference?

If you must modify metal, the cheapest thing is that magazine. Try bending the lip down (in) a little on the left side to let the rear of the cartridge come out fromn under the rail a little earlier.

If you can't fix it that way, let an expert do it. I will play with a $125 mil Mauser action, but not a $400 Winchester.

I'll take alook and probably take it to my gunsmith when I get a chance. I thought of the box corners being bent as well, but havne't looked into it. I have another M70 that wouldn't feed correctly new and had to have that one altered as well. Both these are the newer controlled feed rifles.
Thanks,

I think Winchester must have a quality control problem with the new "classic" CRF action. I had a Model 70 Classic Featherweight in 6.5x55. It shot fairly well, but would not feed the cartridges properly. The case would only go about 1/2 way up the bolt face, between the extractor and the bolt. When the bolt was closed further the bullet would hit the back of the chamber and bind (because it was pointed upward rather than being horizontal in line with the bolt.) I returned the gun to my dealer and traded it on a different rifle. He sent it back to the factory for repair. I wonder if this problem is common to the new CRF model 70 actions? It may be an isolated case, but one bad experience was enough for me.

I am having the same problem with a new 30/06 M70. Let me know if you find a solution.

Do not go grinding on the rails until you know why the round is going catty wampus..It more likly is the bolt face, extractor, ejector, or several other minor things that can cause that...take it to a GOOD gunsmith.

I have contacted the smith who fixed my 338. He's currently working on my trap gun so when that's done, I'll take him this rifle. Thanks for the comments.
