I was given a wthby mk v that the bolt was lost during a house fire ( grab and toss what they could out the window) some years ago. It's an early one serial # 21xxx, says MK V patent pending on the reciever. The safety is on the side like a rem 700 not on the bolt like the new ones. Are the bolts differant other then the safety? I need to call wthby obviously, but I need to at least know what I have to tell them about it.

You probably have one of the first Wby,s that were FN commerical mauser type actions. Thats why its different. Not until some years past that they came up with there own design for there present action. Call Wby and ask for Dean Rumbaugh and he can tell you when you gun was made ect. van

No, it has the 9 lug system, easy enough to see. It just has a seperate safety instead of on the bolt. I thought perhaps a German made rifle, but it doesnt tell anywhere if it is. The name to ask for is a big help, thanks.

First thing I would try is this:

Not likely, if it says Mark V on the receiver. None of those with FN actions were so marked!

Could it be a Schultz & Larsen?

It would be nice if you could post a photo or two.

It would be easy to tell, since the S&L locks up at the back end of the bolt.......

All of the patent pending MK V's I have seen were made in Germany. Could be an early California MK V.

I happen to have a mkV bolt marked "3576", it does have the safety lever on the bolt shroud though. I think it came out of a 300 Wby but can't be sure.

I think you have a normal MkV that someone has put an aftermarket safety trigger on ...

Pictures are worth a thousand words. We could help you if you take a few pictures.

Our shop was a warranty station.

Sometimes some person would come in and need a bolt for a rifle. People would take the actions apart so if it was stolen. I would return the rifle to Weatherby if they will still work on the older models.

The first version of the Mark V did have the safety on the receiver as you you describe.

A call to Weatherby would likely be the best option to see what they can do. Another option that would take longer would be to keep looking on the web for someone that is selling the correct bolt. You also might ask on the Weatherby rifle forum. http://www.weatherby.dk/content.php

Here it is on one of Herb Klein's rifles.
