Hello there!

I`ve been boring recently and that made me browse my Gun Digest books for one more time.
Hmm..there`s something I don`t know,thus
questions must be asked.
All below quotes are from Gun Digest 1992/46th
Annual Edition.

1.McMILLAN SIGNATURE CLASSIC SPORTER.
"Uses McMillan right or left-hand action with
matte black finish.Trigger pull set at 3lbs.
Four round magazine for standard calibers,
three for magnums.Aluminum floorplate."
McMILLAN CLASSIC STAINLESS SPORTER.
"Similar to the Classic Sporter except barrel
and action made of stainless steel.Same
calibers,in addition to .416 Rem. Mag.
QUESTION:Why only stainless in .416?

2.McMILLAN TALON SPORTER RIFLE.
"Uses pre-`64 Model 70-type action with cone
breech,controled feed,claw extractor and
three-position safety.Barrel and action are of
stainless steel,chromemoly optional.
QUESTION:Is this the same pre-`64 action as that
made by Winchester,or it`s a McMillan`s action
with pre-`64 features?If so,which is better/
safer in your opinion?I`m especially interested
in how they handle escaping gases > pierced
primer/case rupture/plugged bore/overload,etc.

3.McMILLAN TALON SAFARI RIFLE.
"Uses McMillan Safari action.Has 1" scope mnts,
positive locking steel floorplate,barrel band
sling swivel.Match grade barrel.
QUESTION:Is it the same action as for the
abovementioned rifle?
QUESTION:There`s also TALON SAFARI SUPER MAGNUM
in .378Wby;.416Wby;.416Rigby;.460.Wby calibers
listed. Is it the same action enlarged for these
bigger cartridges?

4.McMILLAN M86 SNIPER RIFLE.
"Uses Mcmillan repeating action."
QUESTION:Is it the same action as that used in
McMillan Signature Classic Sporter?
QUESTION:Is it a PF with a plunger style ejector?
QUESTION:What extractor do they have?

Regards

Gentlemen

This is history by now, the rifles are no longer made. Think action was made in 416 stainless for some some models.

Call Rock McMillan if you want to know anything.

I had 4 McMillan Signature sporters over the years.

If you call Rock about this you will get an ear full.

Wesley Harris was the guy who bought out Rocks father and ran it as McMillian Gun Works for a while.
Then in Jan 1993 Harris filed for bankruptcy. In the weeks leading up to this he transfered lots of assetts to his wife. Dave Talley lost an lot to this guy.
Harris then did busniess as Harris Gunworks for and while. I was suppling the extractor and safety for the Talon action fron 1990 to 1994. Once he filed for bankrupcy he owed me about $1300 that I never say. We put him on COD and shipped more parts for another year or so.

Wesley Harris is still around just do not know what he is doing right now.

To claify things, the early 90 to mid 90's were dark times for the McMillian name.

Currently Rock (the machinist) and Kelly (the stockmaker) they are brothers. They are both superb craftsmen as shown buy the high quality of products they produce. They have carried on their fathers legacy to new hieghts.

The Talon action has:
CRF
3pos.safety
side bolt release
Tubular reciever like rem700
sandwiched recoil plate like remington
trigger system interchangable with remington.

Jim, I very much doubt Wes will be in the arms manufacturing business again Roll Eyes

Rock helped me with a replacement "sako" extractor for a signature rifle. McBros MCRT is much better action in my opinion. I know Wes Harris rifles had quality problems, Monday more than once a week Red Face

Slightly off topic but I hunted with Ernst Sholz in Tanzania last year. He shot a Talon action Harris .460 Weatherby. There is no telling how many elephant and buffalo that rifle has killed.
