In the late '60s and early '70s Winchester made a cheapened version of the M70 called the M670. One method of cheapening that model was to substitute a different wood for the walnut stock of the standard M70. What kind of wood were those cheapened stocks made of? And a second question, where can I find how many of each caliber of the Model 670 were produced? Thanks.

I believe it was yellow birch, same as the rem 788 and 5XX series rifles, and many others.

I thought they used AAA Fancy driftwood.

If you are looking to replace a stock for a 670 you might give this guy a try: 670 Semi Inlet Stock I ordered on of their stocks for a 788. It wasn't a perfect fit and the inletting was slightly off center. With some work I was able to get over a few of the humps, with that being said it is leagues better than the original factory stock.
