A few weeks ago a customer was looking to replace a bulged barrel on an old Marlin 336 he’d owned for many, many years. None of the usual used parts suppliers had a barrel so we sent the gun to Marlin after they told us the gun could be re-barreled at the factory. The quoted price estimate was agreeable to the customer given his sentimental attachment to the gun. Keep in mind we sent the barreled action only. The wood, magazine tube, sights, etc remained with the customer. Last Monday I received the letter from Marlin with the actual cost (a few dollars below the estimate) and a note saying repairs would begin after payment was received with completion promised within 30 days. A quick call and MasterCard had the bill paid. On Thursday (of the same week) the UPS truck drops off a long box from MFC. On the invoice was a hand written note stating “ Used stock and forearm installed to verify function – No Charge†and another note stating “ New sights and magazine installed to match new barrelâ€. So for the quoted price of installing a new barrel Marlin also restocked the gun (with a very nice piece of walnut) and replaced the magazine tube assembly and sights and did it all very quickly. In these days when its easy to talk of the bad experiences we have when dealing with various customer services I thought it worth a mention that the folks at Marlin went well beyond the call of duty. When one talks about classy gun companies and excellent service one must rank Marlin extremely high. My experience with them has been the same as quoted here!
