Well the front firing pin tip decided to go south (popped off) this weekend on my first year (1948) marlin 336RC (my hunting buddy decided to dry fire it a couple of times too many).

So I disassembled the bolt and ordered a new front FP from brownells this morning. Question is how much protrusion should there be on the tip. I remember Jack indicating 0.055 - 0.65 for my swedish mauser but am unsure for the old 336RC in 30-30.

standard firing pin protrusion for a center fire rifle is .055" plus or minus .005"

You will find a few rifles that fall in the low side of these dims, but not many.

If you go over .065" then you run the risk of punching a hole in a soft primer.
