Why does Mahovsky's Metalife in Pa. not accept firearms for refinishing from Calif

"Note - California Residents - We can not accept firearms from the state of California at this time."

http://mahovskysmetalife.com/Ordering%20Page%206.htm

I sent them a email and asked: "Why cant you accept firearms from the state of California? "

Rons reply: "If you ship just the barrel then you do not need a state licence for shipping guns."

What the heck is he talking about,,,"Need a state licence"?

Ive shipped guns back and forth to other gunsmiths no problem, right to them and right back to my house

Simple ignorance on his part. And too lazy to find the correct answer, which is easy to do.

He's just ignorant.

If an FFL in another State ships a rifle to an FFL in California the shipping FFL has to register on the CA state website and verify that the FFL he is shipping to has a valid (current) FFL.

It does not apply to non-FFL holders shipping to FFLs in CA nor does it apply to Gunsmiths who are shipping back to the gun owner after performing work.

California DOJ has dropped the additional paperwork requirement when the firearm from an FFL is shipped to a California gunsmith. In other words any FFL can now ship directly to a California gunsmith without the extra step.

JD Miller, give these folks a try. They are in Northern California and do great refinishing work. www.hotflashrefinishing.com.

Is that why about half the listings on the internet say "No shipping to Calif"? Will this now allow them to ship without extra paperwork?

The reason most of us don't want to ship to Cali is the percieved added liability. Real or not most of the rest of the country doesn't have the added BS regulation.

I always tell the people on Gunbroker, etc who refuse to ship to California.

"Thanks for supporting the anti-gunners".

+1

If I come across the no sales to California clause on a Gunbroker auction/sale (or any other site), I always use the contact the seller feature and send them a similar message.

flaco

Edited to add:

As it turns out, we have shops in Nevada--Lake Tahoe--and California, so if we run into this problem we just have them ship to the Nevada shop.

Ain't life sweet?
