A very old Winchester 52 Pre-A model followed me home from the gun show last month. It's the one with the Springfield like cocking piece and ladder sight. Well buggered in every way, I have embarked on detail stripping it, cleaning and polishing every part, and removing the shellac from the sights. The plum patina was turning to plain old rust. I won't go into the stock on this post... The safety flag pin is broken (seeking a new one- anybody?) but the screws are pristine The only other destraction in this restoration are small patches of rust both in the chamber and about 2" into the bore around the 5,6, and 7 o'clock positions. I know it's match days are over. But any suggestion to remove these patches of rust would be appreciated... Thanks

DeeBee--- Pour at least a gallon of BOILING water down the bore then brush with a bronze brush and lightly oil. That's as good as it gets without lapping.

I don't know if I'll get drug over the coals for this one but I had one that was horribly bad and finally tried "naval jelly". It worked and it took a lot of muscle work but it is as well as it's ever going to be.
