A very old Winchester 52 Pre-A model followed me home from the gun show last month. It's the one with the Springfield like cocking piece and ladder sight. Well buggered in every way, I have embarked on detail stripping it, cleaning and polishing every part, and removing the shellac from the sights. The plum patina was turning to plain old rust. I won't go into the stock on this post... The safety flag pin is broken (seeking a new one- anybody?) but the screws are pristine ![]() The only other destraction in this restoration are small patches of rust both in the chamber and about 2" into the bore around the 5,6, and 7 o'clock positions. I know it's match days are over. But any suggestion to remove these patches of rust would be appreciated... Thanks

DeeBee--- Pour at least a gallon of BOILING water down the bore then brush with a bronze brush and lightly oil. That's as good as it gets without lapping.

I don't know if I'll get drug over the coals for this one but I had one that was horribly bad and finally tried "naval jelly". It worked and it took a lot of muscle work but it is as well as it's ever going to be.
