last round pops out of mag
i have a arisaka type 44 carbine in 6.5
still has mum, bolt has been bent and sights an some wood missing, shoots ok but last round in mag always pops out the first 4 feed just fine, woul the problem be with the follower, any ideas, this gun isnt worth putting money into and ive glued bb gun sights on so i can hit stuff ok. if it didnt have this last round not holding in mag problem i would think about puttin a few bucks into it just for fun

could be a weak mag spring. try stretching the spring a bit and re-try.

last round pops out of mag

I'd be looking for some flaw in the follower or it's positioning. It may be getting stuck and not rising to the top of it's perch.

If it is working why worry? There is one on ebay:

vapodog made a good point to check how well the follower is moving up thru the mag well. sometimes it can catch on a poorly machined feed rail or the gap between the mag box and the receiver. you can make one from a mauser spring if you can't find an original.

Does your follower hold the bolt open or can you close the bolt when it is empty?

As equipped it should prevent the bolt from closing, I ground a bevel in the back corner on the one I had so you didn't have to hold it down with your finger when you closed the bolt on an empty action and if you can close it on your gun too it is possible someone got a little too grinder happy and re contoured a bit more than what was necessary.

stretching the spring helped a lot but i think someone filed the follower as you can push the bolt forward wo holding follower down.
this is an nice little gun w all the markings but it has a few drawbacks, chamber out of round kinda like a bulge on one side if fired case near the web, cocks on closing, worst trigger ive ever encountered worse than stainless ruger or even savage 24 ou. sights an excess wood gone, no gunsmith will tap it, an a 10 yr old kid tried to checker the stock

Check your bottom metal to reciever fit. Often the follower will cant on the second last round and catch if there is a big enough gap.
