Would this rifle look more complete with a front ramp sight. It would be pretty much for looks only.

Normally, on a mannlicher, I like a short ramp for the look. In your case, that rifle looks mighty fine like it is!

For me yes, a classic styled rifle looks naked or maybe just unfinished to me.

That sure is a pretty Rifle.
Please tell us more about it.

Yes and a banded one would look even better. Nice rifle BTW.

I think a front similar to those on the Ruger RSI's would be the frosting on the cake.

This is a rifle like I had always dreamed off making someday using a variety off different parts. I built it with the thought it was to be a working rifle and not a showpiece but as a plus it turned out to be fairly good looking.

It started life as a Mark X receiver which was surfaced ground and a new Mauser 98 bolt was added. The handle was forged and a two position side safety was added. The bottom metal is a 1903 Springfield which for my money is one of the best looking triggerguards ever made. Yes, I know the guard screws aren't indexed yet as I haven't gotten to it yet. The floorplate was also hinged on it. The barrel is a fairly light contoured and is 19 inches long. The stock was made from a pattern that started life as one of those "Europeon Classic" styles that Midway sold a few years ago. A simple checkering pattern was added and is very fuctional.

It is chambered in 6.5X55 and I think this classic caliber suits the style of the rifle fine. I know that this style of rifle is certainly not for everyone but It "Flats my boat" pretty well. Here is a picture of the right side.

BTW, many thanks for the comments on the feasability of adding a front sight. I appreciate them.

Nice looking gun!

My first thoughts were to leave the sights off, it is sure gracefull looking as is.

However, I notice that you have quick release mounts which would facilitate the use of open sights.

Given that, I would be tempted to simply have a small simple ramp up front and a clamp-on rear sight that would clamp on the rear base when the scope is off.

This one is made by NECG, I'd suggest replacing the allen set screws with thumbscrews.

ALL bolt action rifles deserve iron sights even if you don't use them. Especially Mannlicher style stocks. Of course that is a personal opinion as are all 'likes' and 'dislikes'. There are no laws requiring it. That is a very attractive rifle in any case.

Larry, that rifle is beautiful just the way it is. If you wouldn't use the sights, then I would leave them off. I personally love the lines just the way they are. You've come a long ways pilgrim (paraphrasing from Will Greer).
