I just noticed the firing pin protrusion on my S&W Model 19 is broken. It's just the nose of the pin that is broken, the main portion is still attached to the hammer via the swivel pin. The retaining pin looks as though it is staked on both ends. Is it indeed staked or will it just drift out?
Or...do I have to buy the whole hammer assembly?

Thanks

Go to www.smith-wesson.com. and look for the 1-800 number. They are fantastic people to deal with, one of the best in the firearms industry. Give them a try first and go from there..............

The pin retaining the firing pin is a roll pin that is flared on both ends. You can drive it out with a drift a little larger that the inside diameter. When replacing stake both ends with a center punch. Some of the hammer noses (firing pins) are held in the downward position by a very small coil spring that rides in a slot in the rear of the firing pin.Use care when dis-assembling not to lose the spring.Somewhat fiddly to get back in place also. Not all have the spring,so if yours doesn't and has no slot for it don't fret.Hope this helps.Frank.
