Anyone have any experience with these? While the rings themselves look very trim and well made I question the solidity of the ring mount to the bases, they simply sit in a shallow milled channel (and not a tight fit) and are held to the base with a single 8-36 screw? Anyone have some insight? These are Olin era mounts.

Seen 'em, don't use 'em; due to the tiny screw thing. Now, beefed up to a real screw and they might be ok. Or weld or solder them on. Anything but that little screw.

. Several companies make bases and rings like that where the ring is held down to the base on a flat surface by a single screw. Not fond of any of them. I suppose if you could get the rings lined up and lay a TIG bead between the rings and bases - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - But that's just me and I'm kinda funny that way. When I was a kid. I had the stick. I had the rock. And I had the mud puddle. I am as adept with them today, as I was back then. Lets see today's kids say that about their IPods, IPads and XBoxes in 45 years!
